We had 18 pieces of 1” emt flattened to our specification this week. Three of these pieces, all bent at exactly 15 degrees, are an interlaced hub that is repeated 30 times to form the Archimedes Basket.
The thing we learned having them pressed? It’s a lot cheaper to buy a hydraulic press and make them yourself than it is to hire someone with the equipment to do it for you— by several factors.
These 18 pieces will allow us to make 6 hubs. Enough to test a pentagon and hexagon before beginning to chain them together to form the Archimedes Basket.
Very exciting day! In the end we will be fabricating 72 more of these to complete the project. Check back here for updates throughout the summer.
Our fund raising campaign is almost over and we’ve still got a long way to go. Please share if you can!
