"Komorebi" is a Japanese word with no direct translation into a single word in English; it describes "the dappled effect of sunlight shining through the leaves of trees". We noticed a similar effect when sunlight shines through the scalloped vents between shade stars.

We premiered the Desert Kit (adding an inner tent to the outer layer of shade stars) at Maker Faire, San Mateo, in 2014, then showed it again at Transformus. Everyone was amazed at how soft and touchable the tent is, "like the inside of a cloud," compared to traditional shelter materials like ripstop nylon or vinyl.

All our used dome kits are priced for budget conscious shoppers who have some do-it-yourself skills. We combine used finishes at half price, with a discounted price on a set of hubs and harnesses.

Sourcing the third element of our frame system, the poles, is your responsibility. Making your own poles reduces purchase price and shipping cost; the poles are the easiest part to make and the most expensive part to ship. Before you purchase, please check our blog post "Make Your Own Poles" and watch the linked video, so you can decide if you have the tools and skills to fabricate your own poles.
